LONDON, April 20, 2026 โ Transport for London (TfL) has issued a major travel alert as RMT union members prepare for a fresh 48-hour strike starting Tuesday, April 21. Following the weekendโs ASLEF walkouts, this new industrial action is expected to cause even more disruption across the core of the network.
The Lines Hit the Hardest
Commuters are being told to expect little to no service on the following lines from early Tuesday morning:
- Piccadilly Line: No service expected due to safety signaling staff walkouts.
- Circle & District Lines: Severely disrupted; stations in West London may close at short notice.
- Hammersmith & City: Likely to be completely suspended.
- Elizabeth Line & Overground: These will remain open but will be extremely busy as passengers seek alternative routes.
Why are they striking?
The RMT union has rejected the latest “final” offer from City Hall regarding station staffing levels. The union claims that proposed job cuts will compromise passenger safety, especially at deep-level stations. TfL, however, insists the changes are necessary to modernize the network and fill a ยฃ250 million funding gap.
Commuter Survival Guide
If you must travel on Tuesday or Wednesday, TfL recommends using the DLR or the bus network, though queues are expected to be significant. National Rail services into London Waterloo and Victoria are not affected by this specific strike but will be under immense pressure.
